Volunteers from Hilton Crystal City gather in their reflective safety vests after picking up trash.

It was a beautiful and unseasonably warm Friday, October 21, when 1o volunteers from Hilton Arlington National Landing (formerly Hilton Crystal City) helped pick up litter along Seminary Road as part of the “Adopt-A-Highway” program of the Virginia Department of Transportation. New Hope Housing officially became an Adopt-A-Highway partner with this inaugural project and has committed to cleaning a 0.7 mile portion of Seminary Rd. near the Bailey’s Shelter at least twice a year.

This service project was part of the Hilton “Travel With Purpose” initiative which seeks “to create positive environmental and social impacts across [their] operations, supply chain, and communities.” In addition to removing 13 contractor-sized trash bags full of litter, the Hilton staff also held a cookout at the shelter after the project, grilling hot dogs, hamburgers and more for the guests and staff of the shelter.

“At Hilton, it is equally important that we not only welcome our guests traveling from around the world, but ensure we be a part of our local community,” shared Charles Hill, General Manager of Hilton Arlington National Landing. “The opportunity to partner with New Hope Housing by cleaning up the roadways and provide a meal for their residents was a great way to spread the light and warmth of hospitality beyond our hotel.  I could not be more thrilled to work alongside an organization built with such an impactful purpose and run by such inspiring leaders.”

“Being a good neighbor is a major goal at New Hope Housing,” said William Gorman, Interim Executive Director of New Hope Housing. “We’re committed to our communities, and grateful to have volunteers from the Hilton join us as we make this annual pledge to the Bailey’s community.”

Hilton Arlington National Landing and New Hope Housing first partnered together this past May 6, 2022, for the “Over The Edge” fundraising event which raised over $230,000. For this event, New Hope Housing supporters individually raised at least $1,000 each to rappel down the 160-ft Hilton. A second annual Over The Edge fundraiser is scheduled for May 5, 2023. www.OTEnewhope.com
