As we experience record-breaking cold in our region, many people have asked what they can do to help us as we shelter homeless individuals in our area.  Glad you asked!  We are keeping the hypothermia shelters open for extended hours, and the Kennedy Shelter is open and available for people who want to come in from the cold.  That means we’re serving more food, and meat is always in short supply.  Donations of hamburgers and hot dogs would be most welcome, and can be dropped off at Kennedy at any time.  Additionally, volunteers are needed to supervise in the computer lab so that people staying in for the day can make productive use of their time!  And–extra guests at Kennedy means there is a need for extra towels, twin sheets, and blankets–gently used is fine, and those may also be dropped off at any time.
If you have more time, consider volunteering for an overnight shift at the hypothermia shelter.  Or–if you have some late afternoon weekend hours, volunteer to help serve dinner and clean up.
To make a donation or to volunteer, please contact Chris Bramante, cbramante@newhopehousing.org , and thank you!  Stay warm!
