Mondloch Place, a major renovation/transformation of the old Mondloch II family shelter, is a unique facility in Northern Virginia.  New Hope housing is in the forefront of the effort to end homelessness, creating yet another innovative housing opportunity for persons who are homeless. The new building consists of 20 fully-furnished efficiency apartments which provide permanent housing with on-site supports to single adults who have been homeless for many, many years. Many have been in and out of Kennedy, Mondloch I, or hypothermia. About half of them were counted in the 100K Homes Registry Week in February.  New Hope Housing Executive Director Pam Michell first started working on the idea of such a building back in 2003, on a county-wide SRO task force.  This is a dream come true not only for the 20 residents but also for New Hope Housing’s work to end homelessness in our community.

The building has a community room, amenities, an apartment for live-in staff, and staff offices for the program manager and the case manager.  Resident Services Specialists will be at the reception desk Monday through Friday daytime and evenings. Weekend staff will be onsite, as well as a live-in manager.

This is an apartment building with available, voluntary on-site services. It is not a program.  All residents will sign a lease and pay rent. Volunteers and staff will offer life skills and recreational activities in addition to case management. Services will be voluntary.  Staff and volunteers are working to make this building a true home for some of the most vulnerable residents in our community.  Volunteers have already worked many hours to set up each apartment with linens, pots and pans, dishes, a coffee pot, and more, all items donated from our caring community!  AND we received a donated passenger van to transports residents to appointments and activities!

A community open house celebration will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 3-6 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served and there will be a short program at 4:30.  Join us!
